PWBB Salutes Great Men in Science-Fiction

Share/Save/Bookmark

I’m not a Trek fan, by any means. But, even I can’t avoid giving Captain Kirk some props. He truly is living the American Dream.

(Note: Barry was sure to point out that Shatner is Canadian. Which I think just makes the whole thing that much more impressive.)

Balticon 2008!! w00t!

Well, we’ve made it back in one piece. It was pretty touch and go for a while, but overall it was a terrific trip. Baltimore is a great city and the con was awesome, as well.

I don’t have much to compare it to. This was the first Con for both Barry and myself. It seemed to go pretty well and we were able to meet some cool people, some of them in costume. All of the creators I met were super nice and I got a ton of books signed.

I also took some pictures. Check it.

I do want to direct you guys over to Duck and Cover Studios. We met Marty at the light rail station Saturday morning and also visited their booth on Sunday. There’s some really good stuff on the website and I encourage everyone to support independent artists and, at least, check it out.

Barry and I also had a chance to take in a few of the sites and enjoy some fish down at the Inner Harbor. We did get on the wrong bus, at one point, and take a two-hour “tour” of Baltimore’s ghetto, so that was cool. It did rain pretty hard on Friday and Saturday, so that kind of put a damper on our enjoyment. We did watch the Presidential Debates at a bar in the Mount Vernon area, whilst drinking spirits. And we had a pretty fun time at the Walters Art Museum, which was just a treat.

Overall, lots of walking and exercise. Each night as we collapsed in our hotel rooms, I was reasonably sure that I was going to die. It may sound really, really sad, but I haven’t gotten that much exercise in a long time and my body was pissed off at me for it. It was like, “Chris, you haven’t gotten off your butt in a year. And now you expect me to walk?!? Are you crazy?!”

I did survive, though. And the trip was a great experience. I can’t wait to do it again.

Update from PWBB Headquarters

It’s been a while since we posted something here, so I decided to drop in a few words to give you guys an idea of what’s going on. Actually, not a lot. Barry and I continue to make comics. They say that you have to hit 100 strips before you create something truly brilliant. I’m not sure how to gauge “brilliance”, but I do know how to count. And it appears we’re almost halfway there.

Next week, Barry and I are leaving on a jet plane and flying East to the Baltimore Comic-Con. This is kind of a big deal. It’s the first con we’ve ever attended. And it’s the first time either of us have traveled to Maryland, or any of its surrounding states. As it is, we’re reasonably sure there will be some liquor involved… at some point.

We aren’t presenting. We decided, for our first con, that we’d just take in the booths, the creators and junk like that. I bought a digital camera for the experience. There should be pictures.

Tweet tweet, chirp chirp… Squawk!

I just wanted to drop in and let you know we are tweeting now. If you do the whole Twitter thing, add us and you will get updates when we post new stuff.

That is all.

Welcome New Readers!

Because of a recent advertising drive, that is still on-going, we have experienced a major jump in our readership. While a good portion of this jump may be people who see an interesting ad and click on it to see what’s up. We’d like to think that we can retain a lot of you and you’ll keep coming back to check out the new comics three times a week.

At any rate, as the writer of PWBB, I’d like to extend a hearty welcome to everyone who may be experiencing PWBB for the first time. We hope you enjoy your stay. And we hope to see you again.

Tell your friends,
-Chris Lawton

A call to arms! (Now, complete with addendum!)

Hi all. It’s been a while since anything’s been posted here in the news section and I decided that today would be a good day to talk.

We’ve got a good archive going with some really stellar stuff. It’s actually some of the funniest stuff I’ve written. I’m sure, by now, some of you are laughing because you think the last sentence was the funniest thing I’ve ever written.

Regardless, we have a little over 40 regular readers every update, which is actually a pretty high number, considering how new we are. However, we want more. So, I’m issuing a request. I want a PWBB street team. Below each comic in the archive is a “Share This” link. Clicking on this link, gives you the option to send a link to the comic to a variety of sources, such as direct e-mail addresses, Myspace or Facebook.

What I would like each of you to do, is find one or two comics in the archive that you think someone you know would enjoy and share it with them. The hope is that we draw in some new readers and keep them. We’d really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Chris Lawton
Writer, who tries his best

P.S. To all the future readers that I’m sure we’ll draw in, by the hundreds… I don’t really want to retype that. So, thank you for coming. We hope you appreciate your stay. If you do, could you share us? Pretty please? With a cherry on top?

Addendum: The Doctor, who maintains a lot of our server stuff, installed a way better plugin for sharing stuff. I like it better. There are services I’ve never even heard of.

We are now corporate whores…

As you can see, to the right and left, Barry and Chris have now become corporate whores. This means that you can expect advertising on each page, which you click on to give them money. They really like money.

Of course, these ads also serve a purpose.

Perhaps, you were looking for a new baseball bat… click here and you just might find an ad for one. Or a penguin. That page seems to switch.

Or maybe you’re looking for a clown? We’ve got you covered.

Of course, this “ad by content” thing might not be such a blessing. I’m curious what the title of this post will bring about.

R.I.P. George Carlin

I remember in college, we listened to his 7 dirty words routine in my Mass Media Law class, while talking about obscenity.

That was like the best day ever.

New site stuff…

We are currently in the midst of changing stuff. Expect additional changes as we experiment with colors, graphics and other sort of stuff.

First Posting of Awesomeness…

I realize that my previous post does not quite have the WELCOME that many of us (Barry) wanted. So, I’m going to write something else.

Listen children to a story, that was written long ago…

It began in the fire pits of Hell, where a quill was forged. This quill would be sent up to Earth, by the dark Lord, Satan, himself. The quill’s orders were simple… to sow discord and anger with whatever it wrote.

This quill began its conquest, creating documents to fulfill its purpose. It lined its coffers with the blood and sweat brought about by its horrible, terrible abominations, such as the Manifest Destiny and Gigli.

It wasn’t long before the quill found its way to Western Nebraska and into the hands of a young journalist, who had set the world of media on fire with his unorthodox ideas and awesome writing ability. This titan joined forces with an artist, whose pictures screamed with power of cool.

Together, these two unstoppable forces became a single entity, drawing the power of the quill and reforming it to do their bidding. With strong strokes, the writer used the pen to craft words of immeasurable power. While, the swift workings of the artist made magic with what was once an instrument of evil.

The master of darkness had lost. For no longer would this pen reap only blood. Now, the pen was a tool of awesomeness… The awesomeness of PWBB.

PWBB is officially open!

Enjoy.
